Hand painted icon of Jesus Christ Geometer, made in Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.
"God the Geometer" or "God the Architect of the World" is first encountered as a divine depiction in Bible manuscripts (Bible moralisée) in the 13th century. In the icon, Jesus Christ forms the universe with the help of a large diabetes, which symbolizes God's Creation of the World. The left hand of Jesus seems to be preparing to set in motion the disk that is the World. Within the perfect circle are the spherical sun and moon, as well as the unformed matter that the Earth will become, once God has completed the work of Creation. During the Middle Ages, Science, and especially Geometry and Astronomy, were directly associated with the Divine for most scholars. God created the Universe according to some harmonic principles, therefore, to seek these principles was like seeking and worshiping God.
