The depiction of Jesus Christ Anapeson shows Him at a young age, resting upon a cradle, with His head supported by His right hand, while His left hand rests upon His thigh. In certain portrayals, Christ is depicted sleeping with His eyes open, a representation influenced by the hymnology of Holy Saturday: «He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?’ “Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you.» This icon is also called “Christ's Unsleeping Eye” and symbolizes the incarnation of the Word of God and the redemption of humanity, as referenced in Genesis (Genesis 49:9).
