Joshua, also known as Righteous Joshua, was the son of Nun and succeeded the Prophet Moses as the leader of the Israelites. Born in Egypt around 1654 B.C., he took over leadership at the age of 85 and guided his people for 25 years. He led the Israelites into the Promised Land, where God performed miracles through him. The most significant of these miracles were the halting of the Jordan River's flow to allow the Israelites to cross over on foot and the fall of the walls of Jericho. During a battle, following a divine command, he stopped the sun’s movement, extending the day until victory over the Amorites was achieved. Righteous Joshua passed away at the age of 110, having ensured the division of the Promised Land among the 12 tribes of Israel. He authored the sixth book of the Old Testament, the Book of Joshua. His memory is commemorated on September 1st.
