Hand painted icon of Saint Augustine of Hippo, made in Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.
Saint Augustine, also known as Aurelius, was born in 354 AD in Tagaste, Numidia (today Souk Ahras, Algeria), to a christian mother, Monica and a pagan father, Patricius. After completing his basic education in his homeland, he continued his higher studies in Carthage. There, he lived a sinful life and became father of an illegitimate son at a young age. Later, he followed Manichaeism and then moved to Milan. There, through both the prayers of his mother and the sermons of Bishop Ambrose, he was led to Christianity. Thus, he was baptized a Christian along with his son, Adeodatus, and returned to Africa, teaching and spreading the Word of God. In 391 AD, he was ordained a priest and five years later, he became the Bishop of Hippo, where he shepherded for 34 years. He peacefully passed away at the age of 76 on August 28, 430 AD. He celebrates on June 15.
