Saint George of Ioannina was born in 1808 A.D. at a small village in Grevena, in a poor family. Later, he decided to move to Ioannina, where he met his wife, Eleni, and together they had a son. However, in this city he experienced difficult times, while he was slandered twice for converting to Muslim. Finally, saint George of Ioannina proved that he never renounced his faith and testified by hanging. After his death, multiple miracles happened in the city. His memory is celebrated on January 17.
