Saint John the Theologian was exiled to Patmos around 94-95 A.D. by the Roman Emperor Domitian. Accompanied by his faithful disciple Prochorus, he found refuge in a cave, where a divine vision took place. According to Christian tradition, the rock within the cave split into three fissures, symbolizing the Holy Trinity. From these fissures, the voice of God was heard, dictating to the Evangelist John the Book of Revelation. Due to this divine revelation, the cave was named the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse, becoming one of the most significant sites of pilgrimage in Christendom. Saint John the Theologian and Evangelist is commemorated on September 26th, while Saint Prochorus the Deacon is commemorated on July 28th.
