Hand painted icon of Saint Marina, made in Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.
Saint Marina was born in Antioch of Pisidia, from an idolatrous father, during the years of Emperor Claudius II, in 270 AD. She was Christian and at the age of 15, she refused to renounce Christianity in order to marry Olybrius, a Governor of the Roman Army. Upon her refusal, she was cruelly tortured and she then got beheaded. Saint Marina celebrates on July 17th.
The icon shows the following incident: when the ruler Olymbrius imprisoned Saint Marina, the devil appeared in her cell and, transformed into a wild dragon, tried to scare her. Immediately, Saint Marina prayed to God and all of a sudden the dragon changed form and became a black dog. At that moment, the Saint grabbed a hammer and hit the black dog on the head, until she humiliated it.
