Saint Sebastian was born around 250 A.D. in the city of Milan, Italy by pious parents who raised him in the way of the Lord. Sebastian won the favor of the Emperor Carinus, was appointed a military officer, and then became the commander of the first praetorian regiment. Saint Sebastian protected the poor and helpless, while at the same time he was a brave defender of the Roman Church. During the persecutions against the Christians, Saint Sebastian stood by the side of the persecuted and tried to strengthen their faith up in every way. Once, while a group of Christians were being tried, he boldly came out and declared that he was a Christian, to everyone's surprise. Immediately the emperor Diocletian ordered the death of the Saint. Sebastian fell pierced by arrows, but he did not die. Lucina, a devout Christian, took care of the Saint's body and in a few days he regained his strength. But Diocletian once again proved his cruelty and ordered him to be flogged to death. His memory is commemorated on December 18.
