Saint Simeon the New Theologian was born in 949 AD. in Galati Paphlagonia. At the age of 11 he moved with his family to Constantinople to study. At the age of 14, Simeon met the Elder Simeon Studite the Pious and followed him faithfully. At the age of 27, he became a cadet at the Studion Monastery and then became a monk and priest. At the age of 31, he was ordained Abbot in the monastery of Saint Mamas of Xirokerkos and presented a great intellectual and literary work. At the same time, however, he also faces the envy and hostility of Stephanos, the Bishop of Nicomodeia, who slandered him to the Patriarch. Saint Simeon was exiled to a deserted place near Chrysopolis on the Bosphorus and lived there for the rest of his life, in the Monastery of Saint Marina. Saint Simeon the New Theologian fell asleep in the year 1022 AD. and his memory is commemorated on October 12.
