Hand painted icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian of Arabia, made in Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.
Saints Cosmas and Damian were brothers from Arabia, who lived during the 3rd century A.D., under the reign of Emperor Diocletian. They were distinguished both for their unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and for providing medical care to the suffering without seeking any payment. Alongside Saints Cosmas and Damian, their three other brothers—Leontius, Anthimus, and Euprepius—also served the sick people. As doctors, they offered healing to the body and mind of those in need, never asking for financial compensation. Their reputation spread far and wide for their kindness, dedication, and significant Christian service. This, however, provoked the anger of the pagans, who reported them to the Roman authorities. After enduring severe tortures, Saints Cosmas and Damian were martyred by beheading, remaining faithful until the end. The Saints Cosmas and Damian of Arabia represent the third pair of the Anargyroi (=from the greek word ‘Ανάργυροι’ ) the ‘Siverless’ or the ‘Unmercenaries’ and their memory is commemorated by the Orthodox Church on October 17th.
