Hand painted icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian of Rome, made in Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.
Saints Cosmas and Damian, known as the Holy Unmercenaries, were brothers and physicians who lived in Rome during the time of Emperor Carinus, around the 3rd century A.D. They were distinguished by their selfless service, providing medical care without charge, following the command of Jesus Christ: «Freely you have received, freely give». Despite their reputation, they were falsely accused of practicing magic and were brought before the emperor. After being healed by them, the emperor embraced Christianity. Later, out of envy and malice, their teacher lured them to a mountain under the pretense of gathering herbs for treatments. There, he stoned them to death. The Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian of Rome continued to perform miracles and heal through their holy relics. The Church honors Saints Cosmas and Damian of Rome on July 1st.
